  11. Introductions

  13. It was agreed that the mailing list, nir@cc.mcgill.ca, that was set up
  14. by Peter Deutsch would continue to be used by the NIR Working Group and
  15. that all names on the roster would be added to that list.

  17. Administrative Business - Discussion of Charter
  18.  
  19. We discussed the elements of the Charter necessary to develop this BOF
  20. into for a Working Group.  The draft of the Charter has been posted to
  21. the NIR mailing list.  The goals and objectives are still up for
  22. discussion.
  23.  
  24. Other items of discussion from the floor included the frequency of
  25. publications, future definition of networked information retrieval
  26. standards, and scope of the documents produced by the NIR Working Group.

  28. Updates from Brett & Foster
  29.  
  30. Jill Foster and George Brett presented information about projects that
  31. they are working on.  Jill described the RARE Information Services and
  32. User Support Working Group.  George spoke about the Coalition for
  33. Networked Information Directories and Networked Resources Services
  34. Working Group and the Clearinghouse for Networked Information Discovery
  35. and Retrieval.  Contact Jill or George at their email addresses if you
  36. would like more information about these projects.

  38. Scope of topic
  39.  
  40. The scope of the topic was addressed during the discussion on the
  41. Charter, so not much more was said at this time.
  42.  
  43. Templates
  44.  
  45. A majority of the session was spent talking about the two templates that
  46. will be used to gather information about networked information retrieval
  47. applications and about organizations which are working on projects
  48. related to NIR. The draft copies of the templates have been posted to
  49. the NIR mailing list and are available at the archive kept there
  50. (pub/mailing-lists/nir at archives.cc.mcgill.ca).  We welcome comments
  51. and suggestions about the templates, but do plan to begin implementing
  52. them before the November 1992 IETF meeting.
